Just a quick update of events taking place at local PTCA churches, as well as other events happening in the community:
Presbytery-wide Choral Festival- The Presbytery is cordially invited to the fourth biennial Presbytery-wide Choral Festival to be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at 4:30 p.m. This event has been a very congenial, inspiring gathering of choirs, conductors, ministers and congregations since 2002. Once again the festival will feature music for the massed choirs, hymns, and solo anthems by the participating choirs. This year’s massed choir repertoire represents Minnesota composers or Minnesota poets, a theme that will run throughout the festival. Come to enjoy in “surround-sound “ Dominick Argento’s Gloria; Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, arranged by Howard Don Small, the late organist/choirmaster of St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral; Set Me as a Seal by Rene Clausen; a 2007 setting of God Be in My Head by David Evan Thomas and We Are Called, with music by non-Minnesotan Robert Hobby and text by Twin Citian Susan Palo Cherwien. The choirs will be paying special tribute to Curt Oliver, longtime organist at Macalester Plymouth United Church in St Paul, for his three decades of service to the presbytery by singing his Blessed are the Peacemakers and A Celtic Blessing. The afternoon will close with Blessing by Westminster Presbyterian choir member Tamara Sparks. Between these anthems will be readings of poems by some of Minnesota’s finest poets.
The combined choirs hope you will be part of helping us build this fine event in our Presbytery.
